Migrate SharePoint on-premises sites and favorites to Microsoft 365

This harmon.ie 9.1 feature was built to help companies that upgraded their environment from SharePoint on-premises to Microsoft 365 to automatically update harmon.ie with the new SharePoint URLs.

The migration process replaces the URLs of SharePoint sites and favorites that were defined in harmon.ie, from on-premises URLs to Microsoft 365 URLs, thus enabling the user to start working with the new environment without manually configuring all sites and favorites.

The migration process includes the following steps:

1. Create a mapping table between SharePoint on-premises and Microsoft 365 URLs.
2. Provision a Microsoft 365 site to all users, and set it as the social server.
3. Provision migration registry keys.
4. Instruct all users to restart Outlook, to start the migration process.

Create a mapping table

1. Create a csv file. For each SharePoint site or site collection that was migrated to Microsoft 365, add a new line and set the first column to the SharePoint on-premises URL, and the second column to the matching Microsoft 365 URL.
   
2. Upload the csv file to a SharePoint location, and make sure that all users can access the location as well as the file.

Provision a Microsoft 365 site

1. Provision a Microsoft 365 site to all users, by defining the Sites registry key, under harmon.ie root key.
2. Provision this site as the social server, by defining the Sites\<site title>\DefaultSocialServer registry key.

Provision migration registry keys

To tell harmon.ie how to do the migration, provision the 365Migration registry key, as explained in Provisioning SharePoint sites.

Start the migration process

The migration process starts when a user restarts Outlook. Messages indicate that the process is running, and lets the user know if the process succeeded or failed. If nothing has changed since the last time Outlook was restarted, the process will not run.
